SYFY Renews RESIDENT ALIEN with Alan Tudyk For New Season

SYFY’s sci-fi/dramedy Resident Alien with Alan Tudyk (Rogue One) premiered back in January. And today we hear the show will officially return for a second season.

Check out the announcement tweet below.

Tudyk tells SyFyWire: “It kinda gives away that Harry doesn’t complete his mission and destroy the human race at the end of this season. But it’s great to get another season’s worth of trying to do it!

Lisa Katz, SYFY’s president of scripted content, said in a statement: “With Resident Alien, everything just came together in perfect harmony — a script by Chris Sheridan that leapt off the page, a lead performance by Alan Tudyk, whose nuance between comedy and menace was pitch-perfect, and a team of producers, cast and crew who were all striving to do something great. The appeal of this show transcended the sci-fi genre in a way that enabled us to bring in a broader audience. And as the series continues we hope to encourage more and more fans to discover Harry’s very particular perspective on humans.”

Sara Tomko (Once Upon A Time) co-stars with Corey Reynolds (The Closer) and Alice Wetterlund (Silicon Valley). Levi Fiehler (Mars) joins with Linda Hamilton (Terminator).

The cast also includes Elizabeth Bowen, Meredith Garretson, Judah Prehn, Gary Farmer, Kaylayla Raine, Alex Barima, Mandell Maughan, Elvy Yost, Jenna Lamia, and Ben Cotton. Chris Sheridan (Family Guy) is executive producer and showrunner.

Based on the Dark Horse comic, SYFY’s Resident Alien follows Harry, an alien played by Tudyk that crash lands on Earth and passes himself off as a small-town human doctor. Arriving with a secret mission to kill all humans, Harry starts off living a simple life. But things get a bit rocky when he’s roped into solving a local murder and realizes he needs to assimilate into his new world. As he does so, he begins to wrestle with the moral dilemma of his mission. And asking the big life questions like: “Are human beings worth saving?” and “Why do they fold their pizza before eating it?”

The show is based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse. Resident Alien was the most-watched new cable drama in the last year. And SYFY’s highest-rated new drama in more than six years. The pilot alone attracted over 9 million viewers across all platforms. Episode 2 saw an increase of 581,000 audience members — the biggest uptick for a cable drama launch since 2014.

Mike Richardson (Hellboy), Keith Goldberg (The Legend of Tarzan), Justin Falvey (The Americans), and Darryl Frank (The Americans) also executive produce. David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) executive produced and directed the pilot.

The first three episodes are streaming on Peacock. New episodes hit on Fridays.
