The Evil Deep Blue Sea – 8 of Our Favorite Aquatic Horror Movies

default-featured-image

Watching the movie Shock Waves (1977) the other day, a mixture of Nazi zombies and ocean deaths, I was reminded of all the horror movies out there that I’d seen and loved that had to do with the abyss. Aquatic Horror, as some call it, makes me long for the deep blue depths of the ocean, but at the same time it reminds me of how evil those depths can get.

According to the NOAA, the ocean covers 71 percent of the Earth’s surface and contains 97 percent of the planet’s water; yet, more than 95 percent of the underwater world remains unexplored. It is so massive and mysterious that we will probably never be able to explore the entire thing. That being said, could there possibly be lost ships at sea still floating around for us to discover with their undead crew still aboard? Could there be a chance to come upon a massive sea creature that no one ever knew existed, just waiting to dine upon you?

Whether these things exist or not, there have been plenty of horror movies claiming that they do. Here are some really good ones that we love (not in any particular order)!

Jaws

Death Ship (1980)

The Beast (1997)

Jaws (1975)

Deep Blue Sea (1999)
