If V/H/S/ Halloween left you craving more low-budget, slightly fuzzy “found footage chaos,” log onto your Shudder account and add this underrated gem to your watchlist right now: WNUF Halloween Special.

I first watched WNUF Halloween Special as a college freshman. I’m not sure how I heard about it, but I remember being so desperate to watch it that I was willing to stream it from one of those sketchy free movie sites. I’m only mentioning this because I was genuinely terrified of getting a virus on my MacBook (the kind that had a CD drive—RIP), and I literally couldn’t afford that happening at the time. But I digress.

I don’t want to reveal too much of the plot for those of you who haven’t seen it. It’s way more fun going into this one knowing as little as possible. All I will say is that WNUF Halloween Special claims to be a recording of an infamous live television broadcast on Halloween night, 1987. If you’re a fan of the “Storm Drain” short from V/H/S/94, this is for you.

Watch the trailer below:

Unlike most found footage movies, WNUF Halloween Special isn’t trying to convince you it’s real. This isn’t The Blair Witch Project. Instead, it commits to replicating the fuzzy lo-fi magic of local broadcast television. Every few minutes, the film is interrupted by pitch-perfect recreations of late-night ads, forcing you to wait in anticipation to see what will happen to the crew as things go from bad to worse.

If you ever find yourself reminiscing about your elementary school cafeteria’s Halloween decorations (raise your hand if you remember these), give WNUF Halloween Special a watch. Pair it with V/H/S Halloween and Trick ’r Treat if you’re ready to observe Halloween in December.
