‘American Psycho’ Filmmaker Mary Harron Shares Her Favorite Dario Argento Movie

In our recent interview with American Psycho and I Shot Andy Warhol filmmaker Mary Harron, we talked about the forthcoming reboot of the former and the horror influences on the latter. Surprisingly, the conversation pivoted toward everyone’s favorite Giallo maestro, Dario Argento, and Harron had a recommendation for horror fans everywhere: Dario Argento’s Deep Red.
“I love Deep Red,” she shared, adding, “I think visually that’s such a beautiful movie, and I’ve watched that several times. I love the way he uses reflection. I love the way he shoots through frosted glass and stuff, you know, there’s a sort of mystery in what he does…”
Mary Harron additionally added that, of course, they also “love Suspiria,” and regularly return to Argento’s filmography again and again.
For those interested, Deep Red is currently streaming free on PlutoTV. In our review of the recent 4K release, Tyler Doupé wrote, “Dario Argento’s Deep Red is unbelievably suspenseful. The innovative camerawork, intense score, and masterful editing work in conjunction to make the flick a nerve-shredding experience.”
