‘Friday the 13th Part 2’: Gina Gershon Reveals She Turned Down Role Over Topless Scene

Gina Gershon nearly had an early brush with one of horror’s most iconic franchises, but she walked away from Friday the 13th Part 2 due to some moral complications.
The now-famous actor revealed in a recent interview with Fox News that she was offered a role in the iconic 1981 slasher sequel early in her career but turned it down. Why? She turned down the role after learning the part required topless nudity.
“I was offered a lead in that movie,” Gershon revealed. “And, of course, I was so excited to act in movies, but it definitely felt kind of exploitative to me and a little silly that right before she gets killed, her top has to come off.”

Gershon recalled the role would have ended with a brutal death involving a stake through the heart, a moment she later described as “exploitation 101.” At the time, early ’80s slashers frequently paired sexuality with violence, a formula she wasn’t interested in participating in.
“I don’t really want to do this,” she remembered thinking. “I wasn’t comfortable with it. It seemed silly to me. Not that I had anything against nudity… but only if it makes sense for the character and the story.”
She did not specify which role she was offered, and there is no confirmed record identifying the character. Based on her description, the role most closely aligns with one of the film’s supporting victims, likely either Sandra or Terry.
After discussing it with her father, Gershon ultimately trusted her instincts. “It’s your body,” he told her. “If you’re comfortable with it, I’m comfortable with it.”
Gershon would go on to carve out her own path in genre, recently appearing in the second season of Chucky and Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving.
