Nicholas Brendon, Star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dies at 54

Nicholas Brendon, best known for playing Xander Harris on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has died at the age of 54. His family confirmed that the actor passed away in his sleep on March 20, 2026, from natural causes, via the actor’s Instagram page.
Brendon rose to fame in 1997 as part of the core ensemble of Buffy, playing the sarcastic yet endearing best friend to Sarah Michelle Gellar’s title role. Outside of Buffy, he appeared in TV series like Criminal Minds and Private Practice, as well as independent films including Coherence. His genre work also included cult favorite Psycho Beach Party, along with Demon Island, Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest, and Unholy.
Brendon had been open about his struggles with depression, addiction, and physical health issues over the years. Despite these challenges, he was widely described by family, friends, and fans as passionate and creative. He was also a dedicated visual artist, known for his paintings.
Following news of his death, tributes poured in from former co-stars and fans. Alyson Hannigan, who played Willow Rosenberg, shared a heartfelt message remembering their years of friendship and collaboration.
