‘Backrooms’: A24 Reveals Date and Poster for Liminal Horror Movie Based on Viral Videos

A24 has unveiled the first official poster and release date for Backrooms, offering an eerie first look at the studio’s highly anticipated adaptation of the viral internet horror phenomenon.
The one sheet leans into the bleak, liminal style that made the concept a breakout sensation, showcasing endless yellow corridors bathed in harsh fluorescent light. The poster also indicates that the film is now going by the shortened Backrooms, not unlike A24’s recent undertone title facelift.
The film, now set to hit theaters on May 29, 2026, is directed by Kane Parsons, the visionary young filmmaker responsible for the viral Backrooms series on YouTube. Parsons launched the project as a teenager, quickly amassing millions of views and earning industry attention for his immersive world-building and unnerving realism.
His leap from internet horror creator to studio director marks one of the most significant digital-to-theatrical transitions in recent genre memory. The film lands the same month Focus Features and Blumhouse unleash Obsession from digital creator Curry Barker.
The feature stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, both of whom bring serious dramatic prestige to the eerie material.
Backrooms will be released exclusively in theaters on May 29 from A24.
