Marcus Gilbert, Who Played Arthur in Army of Darkness, Dies at 67

British actor Marcus Gilbert, best known to horror fans for his role as Arthur in Sam Raimi’s Army of Darkness, has passed away at the age of 67. According to the Marcus Gilbert Fansite, Gilbert died on January 11 following a three-year battle with throat cancer.

Born on July 29, 1958, Gilbert made his screen debut in the 1983 TV movie The Weather in the Streets and built a steady career across film and television that spanned more than three decades. His credits include a villainous role in Rambo III, multiple appearances on Doctor Who, and a starring role in the TV adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s Riders. Genre audiences will also remember him from Sherlock Holmes and the Masks of Death, Uncle Silas (also known as Dark Angel), and A Ghost in Monte Carlo.

His television work further included roles on Robin of Sherwood, Jonathan Creek, Doctors, and Murder, She Wrote, among many others. Film credits beyond Army of Darkness included Biggles: Adventures in Time, Freebird, and Legacy. In later years, Gilbert reprised his role as Arthur in Evil Dead: The Game, bringing the character to a new generation of fans.

He is survived by Anthony and his two children, son Maxi and daughter Aaliya. Our condolences go out to Marcus Gilbert’s family, friends, and fans.
