A Classic Kevin Bacon Creature Feature is Climbing the Prime Video Charts: “One of the greatest films ever made”

Tremors Kevin Bacon

What does it take to make a movie into a generational crowdpleaser, one of those things that new fans keep finding and old fans keep loving? There are a lot of answers, but for me, it all comes down to how much the movie gives you with each new viewing. If you’re going to love it, and your friends are going to love it, and your kids are going to love it, it has to keep offering something fresh. Prime Video has you covered.

Tremors might not, at first glance, feel like that kind of movie. Ron Underwood’s 1990 film about a group of country weirdos who have to fight off gigantic worm monsters strikes you from a distance as a disposable creature feature. All it takes is one viewing, though, to find a movie about community survival, finding your purpose, and learning to move forward. Plus, you know, the giant worm monsters are really cool.

But you don’t have to take my word for it. Tremors – featuring an all-star cast led by Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward, and built on the design of the iconic Graboid creatures – is climbing the streaming charts again over on Prime Video, and for many fans, it remains an all-time favorite. In the last few days alone, its streaming prominence has meant reactions like this:

Rewatched 'Tremors' with my kid. I've said it before, but that film is magnificent and an absolute fucking masterclass in foreshadowing. Deeply satisfying, not a second wasted. Shame it gets dismissed as a 'monster movie' because it is a solid Top 5 film of all time. Perfection.

When the great lines of cinema are discussed no one ever brings up Kevin Bacon in Tremors exclaiming, “I found the ass end!” Because in that moment I really BELIEVED he’d located the ass end of a Precambrian life form buried beneath the desert. Like, he and the writer delivered that reality to me.

Living in the United States sucks so bad right now but at least you can still watch TREMORS, one of the greatest movies ever fuckin' made.

Now watching, one of the greatest films ever made

For the uninitiated, Tremors is the story of two handymen (Bacon and Ward) who basically decide they’re done with their crappy lives in the Nevada desert, at least until people start turning up dead and prehistoric monsters start popping out of the ground. Fascinated, terrified, and seeking a sense of revitalization in their own lives, the two pals set out to get to the heart of the monster problem with the help of a scientist and a couple of survivalists, and along the way, find a new purpose in their lives.

Tremors is great for so many reasons. The Graboid designs are incredible, the cast (which also includes country music legend Reba McEntire) is remarkably game for everything that’s about to hit them, the jokes are great, and the stakes are genuinely satisfying. It’s got everything you’d want from a fun horror movie to watch with your friends on a Friday night, but the sheer craft on display means you won’t want to stop with just watching it once. Tremors is forever, whether you stream it now or stream it later, so you may as well stream it on Prime Video now.
