Here’s Where You Can Stream What Critics Are Calling the “Best Horror Movies of 2025”

Rumor has it, Zach Cregger’s Weapons is incredible. In our perfect, 5-star review, Managing Editor Josh Korngut wrote, “Weapons is shocking, satisfying, and certain to surprise even the most jaded of horror fans. This is an immediate horror classic that should be watched with an audience.” I’m so excited, even more so because this year hasn’t disappointed at all. I’m currently in the midst of the Fantasia Festival, but domestic releases, both on streaming and theatrical, have been killer.

Shudder’s Best Wishes For All is a knockout, and who would have guessed Final Destination Bloodlines would be one of the best in the series? There’s plenty more to look forward to in the coming months, but if you’re in need of a refresh, here we’ve compiled which of the best 2025 horror movies are currently streaming. These are the films critics can’t stop raving about. You can view the full list here or check out our highlights below:
Presence (Hulu)
Per Hulu: It’s there before the family even moves in. It witnesses the family’s most intimate uncomfortable moments. It navigates the family’s new house at supernatural speed. It wants — no, it needs—something.
Presence is unconventional. If you go in expecting a terrifying ghost story, you’ll be disappointed. But if you accept Presence as the distillation of centuries of Gothic lore, it’s as heartbreaking and thrilling as any haunted house around.
Dead Mail (Shudder)
Per Shudder: An ominous help note finds its way to a 1980s post office, connecting a seasoned dead letter investigator to a kidnapped keyboard technician.
I’m hesitant to say too much about Joe DeBoer and Kyle McConaghy’s Dead Mail. It’s the year’s best mystery, and its use of tech and sharp context renders it so distinct throughout. It’s a slow burn, but if you’re patient, you’ll be treated to one of the best horror movies of the year.
28 Years Later (Premium Video On Demand)
Per AppleTV: A mutation of the rage virus starts to spread to survivors.
28 Years Later is a masterpiece. Full stop. I loved it. It’s going to be my favorite horror movie of the year, and probably my favorite movie in general. It’s tender, violent, startling, dynamic, gorgeous—I could keep going. While the film is still playing theatrically in some markets, you can now catch it on Premium Video On Demand. It’s worth every cent, I promise you.
Sinners (HBO Max)
Per HBO Max: Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown only to find an even greater evil waiting to welcome them back.
Ryan Coogler’s Sinners is going to be the subject of lots and lots of discourse this year. Not only is it 2025’s most successful horror release, but it’s also been widely acclaimed, with some saying it even deserves to be a part of the year-end awards conversation. Yeah, it’s great, and if you remove all the hubbub around Sinners, you’re left with one of the most confident, electric horror epics in years.
