Netflix’s Most-Watched Thriller Right Now Is a Forgotten Gem From a Master of Horror: “I can’t believe I haven’t seen it”

Netflix

Wes Craven has been behind so many iconic cinematic efforts, it’s hard to keep track. The man introduced horror fans to both Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street (films 1 and 7) as well as Ghostface in Scream (1-4). Though he’s no longer with us, Craven’s impact will live on indefinitely. Speaking of Craven’s legacy, one of his slightly more underrated offerings is finding new life on the Netflix charts. I’m talking about Red Eye. The flick presently sits as the most-watched horror film on the service today and claims the number four chart position overall!

While the film performed reasonably well at the box office and won over critics, it has never had the name recognition of some of Craven’s more celebrated offerings. That’s a shame, seeing as Red Eye is a taut and suspenseful horror thriller featuring standout performances from Cillian Murphy as the chief antagonist and Rachel McAdams as the resourceful heroine.

You don’t have to take my word for it, though. Social media users have been connecting with the flick since it landed on the Netflix platform, and they are sharing their musings. We’ve collected a sampling. Keep reading to see what people are saying:

Did the responses above pique your curiosity? If so, there is no time like the present to make your way over to Netflix and give the flick a shot.

If you still require further convincing, take a look at the trailer in the player window below. Perhaps that will help you make up your mind.

The setup for Red Eye goes like this: In the wake of her grandmother’s funeral, hotel manager Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams) is waiting to fly back home when she meets charming Jackson Rippner (Cillian Murphy) at check-in. She thinks it luck that they’re seated together on the plane, but soon learns otherwise. Jackson hopes to assassinate the head of Homeland Security, but to do so, he needs Lisa to reassign the official’s room number at her hotel. As insurance, Jackson has kidnapped Lisa’s father (Brian Cox).

So, there you have it, dear reader. Red Eye is making waves on the Netflix charts and for good reason. As you may know, the platform has a habit of pulling content with a certain regularity, so don’t wait too long to check it out.
