EXCLUSIVE: ‘Pacificio’ Reveals Nightmarish Practical Creature Designs in First Look Images
We’ve got your exclusive first look at the monstrous, practical effects-driven terror at the heart of Pacifico, the highly anticipated elevated creature feature from visionary Latin filmmaker Gonzalo “GG” Gutiérrez (Giants). The film, which was revealed at the Cannes Film Market, is reported to be the largest science-fiction production in Latin American history, and features a notable cast of Latin stars.
The horrifying images, shown below, depict a moment of pure survival horror—a confrontation with the ancient evil at the heart of the story. We’re told the project was shot with visceral realism, and the creature’s practical design does indeed promise a return to tactile monstrosities.
Directed by Gutiérrez, Pacifico hails from Buenos Aires-based outfit FilmSharks, produced by Mauricio Brunetti (Corazon de Leon) and Guido Rud (Lobo Feroz; No Dormiras), and executive produced by Florencia Lemoine (Giants). Gutiérrez is known for his bold visual style and roots in high-end visual effects. A self-taught VFX artist, Gutiérrez has made waves internationally with his sci-fi short/project Underland: The Last Surfacer. He’s also a founding member of the Asociación Argentina de Efectos Visuales, and brings that technical mastery to this ambitious, practical-heavy horror vision.
Beyond its next-level visuals, Pacifico is also said to meld the grotesque with the ancestral by way of an intimate story centered on its characters and the human experience.

FilmSharks CEO/Founder Guido Rud. “Pacifico is about so much more than its monsters … it’s about how we understand that this is an ancient planet with many hidden, out-of-this-world stories. These are stories about humanism that have evolved.”
The cast for Pacifico includes Manolo Cardona (Undertow, The Snitch Cartel, Who Killed Sara?, Narcos), the rising star Gabi de Faria (Superman: Legacy, The Exorcism of God) Ricardo Abarca (Que Culpa Tiene el Niño, Cumbia Ninja; Miss Bala), Christopher Von Uckermann (Rebelde, Kdabra), Claudio Cataño (Platino Winner for “Cien años de soledad”, and Maria Nela Sinisterra (Corazon de Leon).
In the film, a group of young travelers is stranded on an island in the Pacific where they struggle to escape an evil presence that has been hidden from mankind for centuries.
