The Most Critically Acclaimed Monster Film of All Time Is Streamng On Netflix

Who doesn’t love to see giant, lumbering creatures wreaking havoc and leaving devastation and destruction in their wake? There’s something cathartic about that setup for many of us. Would you believe me when I say that a film that executes remarkably well on that very conceit just so happens to be available to stream on Netflix? It’s true, I’m talking about the Academy Award-winning feature film Godzilla Minus One.
The flick resonates with viewers thanks to striking visuals and a strong emotional core that, like so many Godzilla films before it, speaks to the horrors of war and the toll it takes on us.
Takashi Yamazaki wrote and directed this giant monster epic in addition to leading a VFX team of 35 artists. And what an effective team leader he turned out to be. As you may know, the flick took home the Oscar statuette for Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards ceremony.

While Godzilla Minus One was ultimately a success once it hit theaters, the film was in development for several years with multiple starts and stops related to licensing issues as well as the COVID-19 pandemic. Yamazaki took that in stride and even used some of that uncertainty as creative fuel and worked it into the narrative. Talk about adaptability.
Based on the success of Godzilla Minus One, Yamazaki is now attached to write and direct a follow-up effort that will work as a direct sequel. That project is expected to commence principal photography later this year.
In case you need a refresher on the setup for Godzilla Minus One, here is the plot crunch via Google Movies:
Japan has barely recovered from the Second World War when a gigantic peril emerges off the coast of Tokyo. Koichi, a deserter traumatized by his first confrontation with Godzilla, sees this as an opportunity to redeem his conduct during the war.
So, there you have it, dear reader, the Academy Award-winning film Godzilla Minus One is now available to stream on Netflix. If you have yet to experience this one for yourself, you may want to make your way over there to see what you think.
