This “Dark, Nasty, Vile” Horror Masterpiece is Now Streaming Free

The House That Jack Built

I’m here to ruin your day with a lengthy recommendation that’s going to make you sick in the best way possible. Sometimes, that’s exactly the kind of catharsis we need—something icky and disturbing, yet imbued with sensitivity and pure artistic prowess. Tubi is home to a dozen such movies, all of which I’d encourage you to check out (when you can handle it). There’s We Need to Talk About Kevin, and found footage phenomenon The Poughkeepsie Tapes. Oh, and arguably the most disturbing serial killer movie ever made, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, is streaming free on Tubi, too.

But what if you’ve seen them? What if you demand more? What if you want to traipse into a movie night and absolutely terrify your friends and family? Well, Lars von Trier has you covered. A lot. Antichrist, Dogville, Melancholia, everything else—his entire filmography qualifies. Now streaming on Tubi is his most recent, and arguably underrated, masterpiece. This is The House That Jack Built, and you can catch this disturbing, criminally forgotten gem now streaming free.

Per Tubi: An architect-turned-serial killer who views murder as art recounts his “life’s work” in this audacious film from visionary Lars von Trier.

The House That Jack Built isn’t an easy watch, and it isn’t for everyone. This isn’t just disturbing, but also dense and tonally distinct. It’s hard to conceptualize how it makes you feel, but you will feel it, that’s for certain. You may not like what that is, but too few movies are this uncompromising.

In our review of the film, we even wrote,

“In its shocking violence and philosophical musings, The House That Jack Built makes for a worthy addition to Lars Von Trier’s filmography. Matt Dillon’s performance is outstanding, presenting a character with remarkable darkness. The film’s brutality and intellect make for a memorable experience that will stay with viewers long after leaving the theatre.”

It will haunt you for days, and it’s going to trouble your mind as much as your stomach. Don’t believe me? Check out what audiences online have been saying about The House That Jack Built below:
