The #1 Documentary On Netflix Is a Stomach-Churning Dive Into the Cruise From Hell

There’s something about a disaster that compels and captivates people while simultaneously daring us to look away. Try as we might, most of us are unable to do so. The Netflix documentary anthology Trainwreck understands that compulsion all too well. The latest installment in the series is called Trainwreck: Poop Cruise. The bluntly titled effort just landed on the streamer yesterday and it is already the most-watched film on the platform according to FlixPatrol.
Because I am just as susceptible to ogling a disaster as the next guy, I checked out Poop Cruise yesterday. I can see why this expose on the darker side of cruising is resonating. This is a nightmarish story told by those who had the grave misfortune of living it. Seeing as more than a decade has passed since this all went down, however, the participants have had time to process the horrendous experience and can now look back on it with a sense of humor.
This installment of Trainwreck is fascinating, in no small part, because it delves into the perfect storm that led to this seemingly unforeseen event as well as some of the more outrageous implications. We get context on deferred maintenance, the subsequent lawsuits that followed, and firsthand accounts from not only the passengers but several crew members.
This sometimes-nauseating effort chronicles the infamous “Poop Cruise” of 2013, a four-day Carnival cruise that started out like any other excursion but gradually became a waking nightmare after a fire cut electricity to the ship, causing the wifi and cell serve to go out and the toilets to back up and flood the boat.
James Ross helmed Poop Cruise for Netflix. Though this is his first screen credit, he quickly establishes himself as a talented storyteller. Ross effectively delivers the nuts and bolts of the story with just enough comedic asides and outrageous anecdotes to keep the subject matter from feeling too heavy.
If you think you have the stomach for this admittedly queasy effort then there’s no time like the present to navigate over to Netflix and give it a shot.

That is just about all that we have for you, for the time being. Make sure to stay tuned to the site in the near future for more updates from the streaming scene. If you’d like to keep tabs on me in the meantime, you can always find me on Threads. I am active on the platform as @FunWithHorror.
