The Most Underrated Horror Anthology Ever Is Streaming for Free
Who doesn’t love a horror anthology? There’s something inherently reassuring about multiple stories in a single package. If you don’t like the segment you’re watching, there’s another one on the way. With that said, some anthology efforts feature a crowd-pleasing lineup of vignettes with no missteps in sight. Such a feature exists in the 1995 horror anthology Tales from the Hood. But somehow, this effective effort remains relatively unsung outside of its small but dedicated fan base.

If you opt to check the film out, you’ll surely be taken with the picture’s penchant for entertaining storylines steeped in social commentary. This is a film that’s both engaging and profound. In a sense, this is elevated horror from a time before that terminology was commonplace.
Plot crunch per Google Movies: A creepy mortician attempts to scare a group of teenage drug dealers straight by telling them four horrifying stories. One is about a guilt-riddled cop who goes crazy after ignoring his corrupt partner. He also tells of a meek schoolboy with terrifying supernatural powers. Although the young thugs want to take their drugs and escape, the mortician still has more tales to tell.
Rusty Cundieff directed this winning anthology effort and also scored a writing credit, with Darin Scott taking the other. The duo later re-teamed and co-directed two follow-ups, Tales from the Hood 2 and Tales from the Hood 3. Though neither sequel quite recaptures the magic of the original, the second and third films surely have their fans. Tales from the Hood features a sizable cast of characters, including a couple of familiar faces. Some of the core cast members include Corbin Bernsen, Rosalind Cash, David Alan Grier, Anthony Griffith, Wings Hauser, Paula Jai Parker, Joe Torry, and Clarence Williams III.
