RIP: TALES FROM THE HOOD Star Clarence Williams III Dies at 81

Tales From the Hood actor Clarence Williams III has died. He was 81. Williams died Friday in Los Angeles of colon cancer.

His other films include Purple Rain, Sugar Hill, The Legend of 1900, 52 Pick-Up, The General’s Daughter, Reindeer Games, Against the Wall, George Wallace, I’m Gonna Git You Sucka, Deep Cover, Hoodlum, Life, Impostor, American Gangster, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Twin Peaks, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Half-Baked with Dave Chappelle.

Williams was born on Aug. 21, 1939. Williams was married to actress Gloria Foster (Oracle in the first two Matrix movies) from 1967-84. He is survived by his sister Sondra Pugh, daughter Jamey Phillips, niece Suyin Shaw, grandnephews Elliot Shaw and Ese Shaw and grandniece Azaria Verdin.

Tales from the Hood synopsis:
A creepy mortician, Mr. Simms (Clarence Williams III), attempts to scare teenage drug dealer Stack (Joe Torry) and his friends straight by telling them four horrifying stories. One is about a guilt-riddled cop (Anthony Griffith) who goes crazy after ignoring his corrupt partner (Michael Massee). He also tells of a meek schoolboy (Brandon Hammond) with terrifying supernatural powers. Although the young thugs want to take their drugs and escape Mr. Simms, he still has two more tales to tell.
