Forgotten Vin Diesel Chiller Is Now the #1 Horror Movie on Netflix

A much-maligned Vin Diesel picture is presently finding new life on the Netflix charts. It has an abysmal reputation with both critics and fans but the fact that the flick is charting seems to suggest that there’s a certain merit to it. I’ll level with you, I have a soft spot for this one. The Last Witch Hunter is not necessarily a great movie but it’s an escapist action-horror spectacle that’s never boring.
The Last Witch Hunter landed on the Netflix platform on June 16 and has been making waves since. Today the flick sits in 8th place overall and comes in as the most-watched horror movie on the streamer. This suggests that I may not be the only one with a soft spot for this oft-maligned effort. Sure, it’s not fine art but you could certainly do worse if you tried.
Diesel toplines the picture, appearing as the titular character. Elijah Wood, Rose Leslie, Julie Engelbrecht, and Michael Caine round out the cast. That lineup accounts for one reason I can see past this film’s flaws. Vin Diesel may not have tremendous range, but Elijah Wood and Michael Caine are plenty capable. They make for a nice counterbalance to Diesel’s admittedly one-note performance.
Breck Eisner (The Crazies 2010) directed the flick from a screenplay by Cory Goodman, Matt Sazama, and Burk Sharpless.

Despite the icy critical reception, the film made a grand total of $146.9 million globally. However, considering that the budget is estimated at $90 million, the film probably didn’t make nearly as much as Lionsgate was hoping.
Behold the plot crunch for The Last With Hunter: The modern world holds many secrets, the most astounding being that witches still live among us. Centuries ago, Kaulder (Diesel) managed to slay the all-powerful Witch Queen, decimating her followers in the process. Before her death, she cursed the valiant warrior with her own immortality, separating him from his beloved wife and daughter in the afterlife. Her resurrection now threatens the survival of the human race as Kaulder, the only one of his kind remaining, faces her vengeful wrath.
So, there it is. The Last Witch Hunter is charting on Netflix. Is it a good movie? Not really. Is it entertaining? I’d say so. If you’ve yet to experience this one for yourself, make your way over to Netflix to see what you think. Stay tuned to the site in the near future for more exciting updates from the streaming scene.
