The #1 Most-Watched Netflix Documentary This Week Features a Shocking Interview With an Accused Killer

Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders

Netflix puts out true-crime programming with a certain regularity, accordingly some of their content gets lost in the shuffle. Their latest docu-series, Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders, is experiencing no such fate, however. In fact, the program sits as the most-streamed show on the platform today. It’s possible that the exclusive nature of the series is helping it resonate with subscribers. The production managed to secure an exclusive interview with the prime suspect in the cases, James Lewis. This marks his first (and only) full-length sit-down.

Ari Pines and Yotam Guendelman directed the popular docu-series for Netflix, but neither was responsible for securing Lewis as an interview subject. It was producer Molly Forrester who pinned down the prime suspect. According to a profile in The Hollywood Reporter, Lewis responded positively to Forrester because she approached him on a human level and offered him the chance to tell his side of the story.

Lewis is a fascinating prime suspect who was never convicted of murder in the Tylenol poisonings. With that said, he still served a 10-year prison sentence for extortion when he admitted to sending a letter to Tylenol manufacturer Johnson & Johnson claiming responsibility for the deaths and demanding compensation in the amount of $1 million to make them stop.

Authorities have long suspected that Lewis may be the mastermind behind this case that rocked the nation and led to the addition of tamper-proof safety seals to over-the-counter medication packaging. With that said, he has never been convicted of murder.

It’s rare for someone suspected of but not incarcerated for such a heinous crime to tempt fate and speak out. That’s a testament to the tenacity of the documentarians behind this project and to Forrester’s prowess as a producer.

If you find yourself keen to experience the series for yourself, make your way over to Netflix to see what you think.
