A Twisty, Self-Contained Horror Picture Is the #1 Movie on Netflix

Trap

Netflix surprised subscribers with an unannounced bonus addition to their lineup on March 11th. In the two days since, the streamer added the film, the flick has established itself as the most-watched title on the platform.

The film in question is M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap. The flick made waves when HBO’s Max added it to their lineup a while back. So, it’s not particularly surprising to see Netflix subscribers responding to the film with a similar level of enthusiasm.

The setup for this horror thriller on Netflix goes as follows:

A man and his teenage daughter realize they’re at the center of a dark and sinister event while watching a concert.

I will level with you, dear reader. I tried to watch Trap when Max added the film to their lineup and I couldn’t get through it. Saleka Shyamalan is pretty new to acting, so her performance as pop star Lady Raven kept me from really getting into the film.

I’m really particular about acting. If I don’t buy into one character, I often have trouble buying into the film as a whole. But your experience may vary greatly. If you’re a Shyamalan fan less sensitive to shaky performances you might find ample merit in this one.

In addition to Saleka Shyamalan, the film also stars Josh Hartnett, Ariel Donoghue, Hayley Mills, and Alison Pill.

Shyamalan wrote and directed Trap. The filmmaker wanted to make a movie that combined a concert-going experience with a narrative feature. The conceit of law enforcement entrapping a killer at the event was inspired by Operation Flagship. If you’re not familiar, that ordeal saw the authorities inviting more than 100 wanted fugitives to the convention center in Washington DC under false pretenses. The attendees thought they were getting free tickets and a raffle entry for a trip to the Super Bowl. Instead, they got arrested.

If you’re keen to stream Trap, you’ve got options.

If you’re down to experience Trap for yourself so you can draw your own conclusions, you’ve got options. You can scope the film on Netflix. Or you can make your way over to Max where the flick is also streaming.

That’s everything we have for you at present, dear reader. Stay tuned to the site for more essential updates on which films are tearing up the charts on your favorite streaming platforms. If you’d like to keep up with me on social media, you can find me on Threads @FunWithHorror.
