Intense Thriller Based On Actual Events Conquers Hulu Streaming Charts: “Visceral telling of real-life survival”

Naomi Watts In Infinite Storm on Hulu

A survival thriller can go so many different ways. Last week’s Netflix chart-topper The Abyss played in a what-if sandbox, imagining what it might look like if the Swedish town of Kiruna sank into the earth. Others, like Nicolás López’s Aftershock, revel in the unbridled monstrosity of survivors responding to a natural disaster. Because I’m a big softie, my favorite are the tearjerkers. The thrilling feats of survival coupled with overflowing humanism. It’s why J. A. Bayona’s Society of the Snow was one of my favorites from 2023. It’s also why I’m thrilled to see Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert’s Infinite Storm chart at Number 4 on Hulu.

Check out a trailer and synopsis below:

Per Hulu: As an experienced climber ascends Mount Washington, she turns back before she reaches the summit as a huge blizzard approaches. However, on her way down, she encounters a stranded man and takes it upon herself to get them both down the mountain before nightfall arrives and they succumb to the elements.

Infinite Storm is based on a true story. A remarkable one at that, but also one that lacks the conventional scale and fanfare of most disaster movies. Naomi Watts is nothing short of extraordinary, imbuing her mostly silent protagonist with a palpable sense of grief and determination. Just make sure you bring your tissues, especially if you check out Ty Gagne’s story “High Places: Footprints in the Snow Lead to an Emotional Rescue” afterward.

Users on Twitter have been (mostly) enjoying Hulu’s latest. It absolutely slipped by collective radars when first released in 2022, though now is as good a time as any to plunge into the Infinite Storm.
