The #1 Horror Movie On Netflix “Delivers” Fans the Demonic Possession Scares That ‘Exorcist: Believer’ Lacked

Deliver

Sinister is arguably one of the scariest movies of all time (and we have the science to prove it). Expectations were reasonably high for director Scott Derrickson’s follow-up, and while that film wouldn’t reach the critical or commercial heights of Sinister, it was a respectable possession yarn in its own right. Now, Scott Derrickson’s Deliver Us from Evil is the number one horror movie on Netflix, just in time for the Halloween season. Check out the trailer and synopsis below:

Per Netflix: A police officer teams up with a Jesuit priest to investigate a spate of demonic possessions threatening New York — and his own family.

Deliver Us from Evil stars Eric Bana, Edgar Ramírez, and Olivia Munn. It’s better than you might remember, and recently, I spotlighted it as an underrated gem of an exorcism movie. It’s not Sinister, but in fairness, it isn’t trying to be. That doesn’t mean it’s totally devoid of scares, however. Derrickson manages a few effective jolts within a broader scale, especially in more intimate scenes where Bana’s daughter is menaced by an unseen evil. Fans have been loving Deliver Us from Evil and have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts. Check out what they have to say about the Netflix chart-topper below:

Fans are not only demanding a sequel, but they’re also using GIFs of David Harbour’s Jim Hopper dancing to show their enthusiasm. I agree, Twitter users—I fully agree. With The Exorcist: Believer failing to deliver the requisite possession thrills, now is as good a time as any to revisit one of this century’s best exorcism movies (and the only one to feature The Soup’s Joel McHale).
