Stephen King Calls This Haunting Netflix Original Movie “Pure Magic”

Stephen King has been in the horror game since before most of us were born. We’ve all figured out that when he’s not writing twisted tales, he is watching Netflix like the rest of us. We truly love that for him, and it benefits us as he only raves about true gems. So we leaned forward when he tweeted that Guillermo del Toro’s new movie is “Pure magic.” The man that wrote The StandCarrie, and Salem’s Lot was at home this winter watching Pinocchio.

The iconic author has delivered what feels like countless, terrifying classics over the past five decades. And these stories have seen so many cinematic adaptations, we’ve kinda lost count. If you’re looking to weed through the pile, we’ve got you covered. The film is a reimagining of the classic Carlo Collodi tale of the fabled wooden boy with a whimsical tour de force that finds Pinocchio on an enchanted adventure that transcends worlds and reveals the life-giving power of love.

This version of Pinocchio was co-written by Guillermo del Toro and Patrick McHale. The film was directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson. It features the voices of Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Gregory Mann, Tilda Swinton, and Finn Wolfhard. Fun facts, McGregor was in Stephen King’s screen adaption of Doctor Sleep, and Wolfhard did both films of the IT remake.

I like to envision Stephen King in fuzzy slippers and comfy PJs scrolling around Netflix like the rest of us. As he skims by all of his own movies, and all of the horror stuff he’s already recommended this decade, he locks eyes on Pinocchio. Because this is the Stephen King relatable era, he realizes he’s lost track of time again and missed the drop date. He immediately hits play and is transported to a magical place where a toy wants to be a real boy. As the credits roll and he wipes away a single tear and runs to Twitter. The man who has been giving us nightmares for almost five decades is officially one of us.

If Stephen King says Pinocchio is pure magic, then we should all take the day off and check it out. Right?

Have you seen Pinocchio? Do you agree with Stephen King’s tweet? Let me know at @misssharai.
