‘The Mean One’ Director Steven LaMorte On His Devious Holiday Horror Movie

We’ve been blessed with many a bloody horror movie this holiday season. From The Killing Tree to Violent Night to Joe Begos’ Christmas, Bloody Christmas, we have no shortage of Christmas horror where the most wonderful time of the year is covered in blood and viscera. Contributing to this delightful gift is director Steven LaMorte with his parody film The Mean One. The new film riffs on a certain beloved green monster with a hatred for Christmas. It’s also poking fun at the cheesy romance Christmas movies from the likes of Hallmark, Lifetime, and more.

In the audacious new parody, The Mean One (David Howard Thornton) is a hairy, green-skinned grump in a Santa suit, living on a mountain high above the town of Newville, despising the holiday season. Young Cindy You-Know-Who (Krystle Martin), whose parents were butchered by The Mean One twenty Christmases earlier, is returning to town to seek closure… but when the creature launches a new reign of terror that threatens to destroy Christmas, Cindy finds a bold new purpose – trapping and killing the monster.
We’re a fan of LaMorte’s creative liberties when it comes to naming his characters. It’s cheeky, just like the rest of this ultra-indie horror film. It’ll surely brighten up your Christmas parties, especially with a beer or two in hand.
