Scary New Stephen King Netflix Movie ‘Mr. Harrigan’s Phone’ Gets Release Date
There is a lot to look forward to on Netflix this upcoming spooky season. From updates on goth classics like The Addams Family and The Munsters to a Guillermo del Toro anthology series, there’s a lot to be excited about. One title I’m personally psyched to stream is the Stephen King adaptation of Mr. Harrigan’s Phone. Based on a short story from the recent collection If It Bleeds, Netflix has officially set the film for October 2022.
This is not the first Stephen King short story Netflix has turned into a feature film. The company has already realized three in recent years, including Gerald’s Game, 1922 and In The Tall Grass.
Mr. Harrigan’s Phone is about a young boy who bonds with a billionaire. When the older man dies, he’s buried with an old iPhone. It’s not long before the boy starts to receive voicemails from the man in the grave. It’s a chilling work about friendship that’ll stick with you for days.
Ryan Murphy is finally teaming back up with Jason Blum to produce the adaptation for Netflix. Together they have tapped filmmaker John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) to write and direct. It will be the fourth Stephen King film produced by the streamer.
Donald Sutherland and Jaeden Martell (IT) star in the new adaptation landing this spooky season. Sutherland appears as the titular “Mr. Harrigan.” Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Barry) also joins the cast in the role of Ms. Hart.
Lastly, have you read the Stephen King short story collection If It Bleeds? If so, what did you think? Let me know on Twitter via @joshkorngut. I’m always around to chat about all things Stephen King!
