‘Yellowjackets’ Star Joins The Cast of Stephen King’s ‘The Boogeyman’

The Boogeyman

A few months ago, we shared the news that Rob Savage (Host) is directing an adaptation of Stephen King’s scariest story, ‘The Boogeyman’. Today, Deadline announced Yellowjackets Sophia Thatcher and Chris Messina (Sharp Objects) will star in the film.

The premise of The Boogeyman is simple: a man is talking to his psychiatrist. But as the conversation unfolds, the nightmarish truth begins to reveal itself. Savage’s adaptation expands the world of the story a little bit further.

The film will now feature two young leading characters. Reeling from the tragic death of their mother, a teenage girl and her little brother find themselves plagued by a sadistic presence in their house and struggle to get their grieving father to pay attention before it’s too late.

‘The Boogeyman’ was first published in Stephen King’s 1978 horror anthology The Night Shift, and is considered one of Stephen King’s scariest short stories. Published the same year as The ShiningThe Night Shift houses countless classic King stories including Maximum Overdrive and Children of the Corn.

Thatcher is coming off an incredibly successful season of Showtime’s Yellowjackets, where she plays young Natalie. She also starred in an episode of the Disney+ series, The Book of Boba Fett.

Black Swan writer Mark Heyman wrote The Boogeyman. Scott Beck & Bryan Woods (A Quiet Place) and Akela Cooper (Malignant) also handed in drafts for the adaptation.

The Boogeyman is slated to premiere on Hulu. Production is set to start next month. Keep an eye on Dread Central for more updates on the latest King adaptation!
