‘Scary Stories To Tell In the Dark’ Filmmaker Will Now Make Tarot Cards Terrifying

Get ready to break the deck. André Øvredal (dir. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) will now direct Tarot, an all new horror movie about tarot cards!

The adaptation was sold in a highly competitive auction to production company eOne from a pitch written by Jason Pagan and Andrew Deutschman.

Plot details are scarce, although Deadline reports that film is said to be a “high concept thriller based on Tarot cards.” I guess it was only a matter of time before something like this hit Demand.

Rising horror icon André Øvredal will direct and executive produce the project, likely alongside producers Brad Fuller and Alex Ginno.

It’s all in the cards

Besides Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, André Øvredal has risen to spooky fame with his epic Trollhunter, which caught the attention of Guillermo del Toro. A Scary Stories megafan, del Toro quickly connected the Norwegian filmmaker with the gateway horror gig.

The producers behind the upcoming Tarot project are also riding high off of recent horror hits themselves. Fuller Media produced A Quiet Place Part II, one of the biggest horror successes in recent memory.

Before André Øvredal will deal us Tarot, we will be seeing his adaptation of the Dracula epic Last Voyage of the Demeter. Voyage is currently in post-production and seems to be one of multiple new Dracula projects on the go. Dread recently reported on Nicolas Cage’s casting as the bat man in the Universal Monster retake, Renfield.

Lastly, how do you feel about a Tarot card horror film? Will you be checking out your future when the project eventually hits screens? Let me know on Twitter via @joshkorngut. I’m always around to chat all things gateway horror.
