New Clip and Poster for Jean Luc Herbulot’s ‘Saloum’

A new clip and poster have been released for Jean Luc Herbulot’s genre-bending horror-thriller, Saloum. Described as both kinetic and frenzied, Saloum follows an elite trio of mercenaries looking to extract a both gold and narcotics from a drug dealer in Dakar, Senegal. Set against the backdrop of Guinea-Bissau’s coup d’état of 2003, the mercenaries’ escape plan goes awry and they find themselves stranded in the Sine-Saloum River Delta.

The post harkens to Quentin Tarantino’s work Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, with “Once Upon a Time in Africa…” prominently displayed in black font. It’s an enigmatic yet alluring poster, with the featured revolver and contrast of reds and blacks.

Premiering tonight at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, Saloum sounds like a treat for horror fans. Director Jean Luc Herbulo is known for his Sengalese set thrillers, including the feature Dealer and the series Sakho & Mangane and Saloum looks to be Herbulo working on a larger, grander scale. Festivals of the sort have been fantastic opportunities to experience rich, diverse genre work, and Saloum is one we’re excited to catch here over at Dread Central.
