‘Candyman’ Star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Worked as an Architect Before Breaking Into Acting

Hollywood heavyweight Yahya Abdul-Mateen II recently went on Good Morning America to promote the imminent release of Candyman. Not only did the superstar share some fascinating personal trivia, but he also wore the absolute best sweater.

Is it weird that I was unsurprised to learn that the Aquaman star used to be an architect? While I don’t know the man personally, he does give off the energy of a person who could design the hell out of a college library or sun-filled atrium.

Most importantly, the Watchmen star happened to wear his best Willow Rosenberg outfit, and I’m living for it. He pulls off the pink fuzzy sweater so hard, Alyson Hanigan is probably shaking somewhere.

Check out the full interview now:

In Candyman, a supernatural killer with a hook for a hand is easily summoned by those daring to repeat his name five times into a mirror.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays Anthony McCoy, a struggling artist. He and his girlfriend, gallery director Brianna Cartwright (Teyonah Parris), move into a luxury loft condo in Cabrini. However, with Anthony’s painting career on the brink of stalling, a chance encounter with a Cabrini Green old-timer (Colman Domingo) exposes Anthony to the tragically horrific nature of the true story behind Candyman.

Anxious to maintain his status in the Chicago art world, Anthony begins to explore these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, subsequently opening a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifyingly viral wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with destiny.

Candyman has also cast Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and Vanessa Williams, alongside franchise veteran Tony Todd.
