TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE Producer Shuts Down Screening Rumours

Rumours surrounding the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel have made their way online. Someone told the internet that a recent test screening went poorly and now producer Fede Alvarez has set the record straight.

With practically zero promotion behind the imminent legacy installment, it was easy for horror fans to have concerns about studio support for Texas Chainsaw Massacre. While the updates we have received thus far have been promising, there’s not much to speculate on.

Knowing that we’ll be in store for Old Man Leatherface and the return of Sally Hardesty is cool as hell. But we want to know more…

At least there’s some small good news today. In a conversation with Bloody-Disgusting’s Boo Crew Podcast, Alvarez and Don’t Breathe 2 director Rodo Sayagues cleared the air about Legendary’s incoming sequel to the very first Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Here’s some of what Alvarez shared with the podcast:

I would let the studio announce the planned release, but we played it a couple times. There was someone online who said it didn’t go well; I don’t know what screening he was at… it was amazing … When you test it, you get a score, and it scored as good as Don’t Breathe 2, which I think is better than Don’t Breathe. So that tells you something.

The producer went into further detail by sharing:

It started just as Evil Dead started; us thinking, what can we do with this character and this franchise. A lot of respect for the legacy of the first movie, but we’re aware there’s a new audience out there who might not love it or doesn’t know anything about it, so we need to make sure they can enjoy it as well. That’s how the story was crafted  …  You’ll have news soon.

The man behind Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead could be the perfect fit for an upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre film. He’s yet to give us anything less than awesome, so hopefully, he’s right on the money about this upcoming sequel.
