Jenna Ortega is the New Wednesday Addams
It’s been a few weeks since we first got word of a new Addams Family spinoff series focusing on Wednesday Addams in the works at Netflix.

In late April, we reported that two actresses were in the running for the lead of Wednesday: Jenna Ortega (Scream) and Bailee Madison (The Strangers: Prey at Night). Today, Variety has announced who got the job. Let’s congratulate Jenna Ortega for landing the role!
The spin-off will focus on Wednesday’s primitive years at Nevermore Academy.
The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.

Tim Burton will serve as executive producer with writers and showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville). MGM TV will finance the series. Wednesday is the lead of the show which is set in the present day.
Burton has previously stated that he hopes to bring Christina Ricci into the series as Morticia Addams. Ricci played Wednesday in 1991’s The Addams Family feature film and its sequel, Addams Family Values released in 1993. Barry Sonnenfeld directed both films.
