Tim Burton’s upcoming Netflix The Addams Family spin-off, Wednesday wants original The Addams Family and Addams Family Values actress Christina Ricci to return to the franchise, this time as Morticia Addams! And now we also hear that casting is down to two to play the lead.

The Illuminerdi reports that the spin-off prequel wants either Jenna Ortega (Scream, The Babysitter: Killer Queen) or Bailee Madison (The Strangers: Prey at Night, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark) to take over the role made famous by Ricci (and many others).

The spin-off will focus on Wednesday’s primitive years at Nevermore Academy.

We’ll let you know when we hear more. Stay tuned!

Burton will serve as executive producer with writers and showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville). MGM TV will finance the series. Wednesday will be the lead of the show which will also be set in the present day.

In the meantime, remember the 1991 adaptation began when a man (Christopher Lloyd) claiming to be Fester, the missing brother of Gomez Addams (Raul Julia), arrives at the Addams’ home, the family is thrilled. However, Morticia (Anjelica Huston) begins to suspect the man is a fraud since he cannot recall details of Fester’s life. With the help of lawyer Tully Alford (Dan Hedaya), Fester manages to get the Addams clan evicted from their home. Gomez also realizes the two men are conspiring to swindle the Addams fortune and that he must challenge Fester.

WEDNESDAY

So who would you rather see take on the role of new Wednesday Addams: Jenna Ortega or Bailee Madison? I’d have to go with Ortega.
