GODLESS: Stephen King Recommends Netflix’s Limited Series

Need something new to binge? Short on time? Well, it looks like Stephen King‘s got you covered. Recently, The Stand and The Shining author took to Twitter to recommend Netflix’s seven-episodes limited series Godless with Jeff Daniels.

Seen The Queen’s Gambit? Another Scott Frank, limited series, Godless, is just as good (Netflix). And as a bonus, who did I spy but Kim Coates, my old SOA buddy.”

Scott Frank created the western miniseries for Netflix. The seven-episode series was released on the streaming giant globally back on November 22, 2017.

Written and directed by Scott Frank, it stars Michelle Dockery, Merritt Wever, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Tantoo Cardinal. Jack O’Connell co-stars with Scoot McNairy, Kim Coates, Sam Waterston, and Jeff Daniels (Dumb and Dumber To).

The series centers on a notorious criminal on a mission of revenge. His bounty seeks refuge in an isolated mining town governed mainly by women who band together to defeat the murderous gang.

Jeff Daniels won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie. Merritt Wever won as well for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.

Godless also scored noms for Lead Actress, Directing, and Writing. Not to mention Casting, Cinematography, Hairstyling, Music, Main Title Music, and Sound Editing.

Frank also served as executive producer. So did Casey Silver and Steven Soderbergh (Traffic, Ocean’s Eleven). Jessica Levin and Michael Malone produced.

The series sports an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus: “Vistas and violence root Godless firmly in traditional Western territory, but its female-driven ensemble sets it apart in a male-dominated genre.”
