The first film took place in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves, and fairies have coexisted since the beginning of time. Two police officers, one a human, the other an orc, embark on a routine night patrol that alters the future of their world as they know it. Battling both their own differences as well as an onslaught of enemies, they work together to protect a female elf and a thought-to-be-forgotten relic, which, in the wrong hands, could destroy everything.

Bright was directed by David Ayer from a screenplay by Max Landis. It starred Will Smith as Daryl Ward, Joel Edgerton as Nick Jakoby, Noomi Rapace as Leilah, Lucy Fry as Tikka, and Édgar Ramírez as Kandomere. Ayer produced with Eric Newman, Ted Sarandos, and Bryan Unkeless.

It sports a mere 28% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: Bright tries to blend fantasy, hard-hitting cop drama, and social commentary — and ends up falling painfully short of the mark on all three fronts.
