Dead Island 2 Back In Production With A New Developer

The fate of Dead Island 2 has been up in the air for some time. Techland, the developers of the original game, had no interest in returning, instead opting to make Dying Light for Warner Bros., so publisher Deep Silver hired German studio Yager to create the game. However, they were subsequently dropped last year, presumably because, as they came cheap, the product that they were working on would not have been up to the standards of a top quality AAA game. You get what you pay for, Deep Silver.

This led many fans to believe that Dead Island 2 would never see the light of day. All is not lost, however, because MCV exclusively learned that British studio Sumo Digital will now handle the game’s development. Who are they, you ask? They’re the folks who bought us Little Big Planet 3, Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed, Sega Superstars Tennis, the F1 series, and more. So yeah, the seem like an odd choice to make a zombie game (the only other horror title that they worked on was the bloody awful Dead Space Ignition) but there’s a first time for everything I suppose.

So will do they do right by the game? Let’s wait and see. And we have a Hell of a long time to wait, as it’s still in the early stages of development. In the meantime, fans can enjoy both remasters of the original Dead Island games and the 2D spinoff Retro Revenge.
