Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton on Their Shared Connection to ‘The Ring’ [Video]

As Ready or Not 2: Here I Come arrives in theaters everywhere tomorrow, its stars Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton sit down for an exclusive conversation with Dread Central about the horror movies that ruined their childhoods, the most memorable death scenes they’ve ever filmed, and which horror icons they’d like to see each other play in the future.
When the conversation turned to one of horror’s trickiest on-set challenges, dying convincingly, Weaving shared that her experience filming Scream VI was more complicated than you might think.
“It was Scream. It was hard to know when to die,” she told us. “I got stabbed, and I was like, ‘What stab is the one that does it?’ And then do you have your eyes open? It’s hard, man.” Wise words from a horror hero.
Weaving is also not the only Ready or Not 2: Here I Come cast member to be taken out by Ghostface. Co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar met a similarly brutal fate in Scream 2. More on that in our recent interview with the genre icon.
As for another spooky parallel, when asked about the movies that scared them most growing up, both actors pointed, directly or indirectly, to The Ring remake. For Weaving, the connection is especially eerie.
“My friends were showing me The Ring… and her name is Samara. Her last name is Morgan, and that’s my sister’s name…”
Newton, meanwhile, admitted her gateway to fear came through parody.
“Mine is Scary Movie 3, which is like the spoof on The Ring. It was the scary parts,” she said, before laughing off the confession. “I was little. Give me a break!”
