First Look at a Deadite in 'Evil Dead Burns' as She Drinks Hot Wax!

How lucky are we to be in the midst of an Evil Dead universe, just a mere few years after Warner Bros. considered dumping Evil Dead Rise onto HBO Max?

Now, with Evil Dead Burn, filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček takes over directing duties in the follow-up to Evil Dead Rise, which also sets the table for next year’s Evil Dead Wrath. Warner Bros. and New Line are all-in on creating an Evil Dead universe.

A teaser trailer for Evil Dead Burn recently screened in theaters before eventually surfacing online, and it’s every bit as chaotic and cruel as fans would hope. Interestingly, the footage never fully reveals what’s happening inside the house. Instead, the trailer traps viewers alongside one terrified character as she crawls through the home while absolute carnage erupts around her. Bodies are violently hurled through doorways, figures are dragged out of frame, furniture crashes in the background, and Deadite mayhem unfolds just out of sight. The restraint makes the whole thing even more unsettling, teasing the violence without ever giving audiences a clean look at the monsters themselves.

While the first official image previously introduced the doomed family at the center of the story, we’ve now gotten two much more disturbing first looks: images of a grotesque Deadite casually drinking hot candle wax straight from a burning candle – exactly the kind of deranged behavior that feels perfectly at home in the Evil Dead universe.

Here’s the official synopsis: “After losing her husband, a woman seeks comfort at her in-laws’ in their remote home. But when they’re turned into Deadites one by one, the family reunion becomes a hellish nightmare. Soon she realizes that the promises she made herself in life matter… even in death.”

Dune: Part Two actress Souheila Yacoub stars in Evil Dead Burn alongside Hunter Doohan (Wednesday), Luciane Buchanan (The Night Agent), and Tandi Wright (Pearl), with Erroll Shand, Edgar Price, Maude Davey, Keanu Karim, and Victory Ndukwe.

“I told the studio that I wanted to make a nasty film, a film that hurts, from which you come away tested,” Vaniček previously said of Evil Dead Burn.

“I’m going to put all the horror I have inside, it will be cathartic, and if I haven’t ruined my career and I can continue to make films behind it, I will move on to something other than horror!”

From producer Sam Raimi, the new Evil Dead movie will now release in theaters on July 10, 2026.

Evil Dead Wrath will open in theaters in April 2028.
