10 Of The Scariest Drag Artists Slaying The Game

According to queer lore, there are two types of drag artists. There are the queens who start their careers over Pride, and then there are the spooky queens who begin their drag journeys on Halloween. Can you guess which type we’re about to unearth?

With the upcoming season of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula hitting Shudder soon, we figure now is the perfect moment to celebrate spooky drag.

However, while there have been a healthy number of Spooky Queens to hit the runways of RuPaul’s Drag Race, the list that follows will reach further into the fringes of spooky drag eleganza.

So, what are you waiting for? Pick up your shovels and let’s go:

CHARITY KASE

Oh, sweet, sweet Charity. This queen is absolutely one of the most grotesque, awful, shocking, disgusting, gorgeous, and talented drag performers across the pond.

So, it’s no surprise that Charity was recently announced to be a cast member for RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’s upcoming third season. But don’t worry. I’m sure Charity will keep up the danger and the gore no matter how famous this monster gets. Get them dead petals, Charity. I’ll be rooting for you.

PEROXIDE FEMANON

Ugly by day, uglier by night. Peroxide Femanon is a queen of many shades. While they may be out and about destroying the drag community with the fiercest, scariest looks around, there’s more to them than just a scary face. When Peroxide isn’t on stage frightening the kiddies, they’re a respectable television star.

Peroxide’s day name is Jesse James Keitel. Jesse is a non-binary actor who stars in the mainstream moment Big Sky on ABC. The extraordinary talent also recently booked a lead role on the upcoming television reboot of Queer as Folk. Hopefully, all of this mainstream success doesn’t stop this filthy beauty from disrupting the status quo of drag.

MAXI GLAMOUR

Maximum beauty. Maximum fear. Maxi Glamour! This rising star of drag artistry is already an Instagram A-lister. Serving look after terrifying look, Maxi has established themselves as a face you’ll never forget.

Maxi recently competed on Dragula season three. Werk. Dragula, of course, is the only drag competition reality series on television and don’t even try telling me otherwise.

Give this queen a follow if you’re interested in spooky drag excellence.

LANDON CIDER

Hail to the King, baby!

Landon Cider is the premiere horrific Drag King stomping around the world right now. The winner of Dragula season three, this artist is helping break down the barriers of mainstream drag. Is there a reason Drag Kings are not allowed on Drag Race? I’m really asking.

Landon is a global superstar who seems like she’s just getting started. In fact, this full-on queer celebrity has just embarked on a tour of America. Find out if they’re stopping in a city near you! Check out this King’s Instagram account for endless amounts of terrifying content.

VICTORIA ELIZABETH BLACK

Miss Black is in the house for your nerves. Literally, she’s biting into your nerves. Are you seeing this vampire look? Look at huh! Victoria Black was a front runner of Dragula season two, and fans cried foul when they were eliminated. Victoria absolutely killed the Hellraiser and Alien challenges, cementing this queen as a horror icon for the books.

Black was back again for The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula: Resurrection, ultimately placing third. This terrifying titan is the drag daughter of the incomparable Maddelynn Hatter.

KENDRA ONIXXX

Kendra Onixxx is equal parts horror, beauty, grace, and disgrace. This star rocked the stage on Dragula season two and Resurrection. Now they’re destroying Instagram with their untouchable looks. Follow them right now or I will alert the authorities on her behalf.

Kendra is also one hell of a scream queen. Each of her “extermination” sequences on the Dragula franchise were truly for the books (Necronomicon included).

We couldn’t move past Miss Onixxx before mentioning how funny this queen is. Her shade catalogue on her season of Dragula was unmatched. Scorched earth levels of shade.

CRYSTAL METHYD

She’s ooky, she’s kooky, and she’s serving us Miss Kreuger looks! Crystal Methyd was a top-three queen on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12. When the season started off, she wasn’t quite seen as a front-runner. But this underdog prevailed, pulling in hard on the second half of the season with some of the wildest and most creative looks the show had to offer.

No one will ever forget Crystal Method’s timeless Freddy Krueger couture, either. I mean, just look at it. High Fashion Freddy for days. This artist has only just begun her world domination and we can’t wait to see what she’s going to cook up next.

PEACHES CHRIST

Oh, lord. What can we write about Peaches Christ that doesn’t already go without saying? The original spooky queen laureate of San Fransisco, Peaches is one of the most accomplished drag artists on this goddamn planet. Peaches started her career by hosting midnight screenings of cult horror films, which she still does to this day.

Peaches also switched roles and became the filmmaker herself, directing the splatter horror romp All About Evil. This unmissable horror film even stars Natasha Lyonne! We love ourselves a vers queen.

Peaches was recently a guest of the Dread Podcast Network’s very own Development Hell, where she talks about her love of Trick r’ Treat. Take a listen!

THE BOULET BROTHERS

Last up we’re serving you a killer twofer. The Boulet Brothers are inarguably two of the most influential spooky queens undead today. These two ghouls have conquered Hollywood with their unmissable live performances and televised projects. The Boulets created and host Dragula, the unstoppable drag competition franchise which lands its fourth season on Shudder this fall.

The Boulet Brothers also happen to host Creatures of the Night right here on the Dread Podcast Network.

This horrifying podcast moonlights as a variety show featuring movie reviews, behind the scenes looks into the Boulet Brothers’ current projects, celebrity interviews, and famous hauntings in history.

While we’ve done our best, there are still countless other scary AF drag performers who could have easily made this list. Don’t stress, though. We’ll absolutely be making up for it with more scary drag coverage in the future. We can’t wait to showcase the scariest international queens the globe has to offer next.
