Colossal Comes Out This Weekend Which Means You Should Support It; New Artwork
The indie monster comedy film Colossal (review) is out today in limited theaters (specifically New York and Los Angeles), and after hearing nothing but positive (read: glowing) reviews from my peers over the past several weeks, I’m kinda pissed that it isn’t anywhere near me.
That being said, the moment I have the ability to check it out, I’m gonna be there. You wanna know why? There are a couple of reasons:
1) The movie genuinely looks interesting and entertaining. Now that I know the basic plot of the film, I find myself incredibly curious as to how it will play out. What connection does Anne Hathaway actually have with this beast? How can it possibly end without tragedy? Will Hathaway’s character appreciate or even recognize the ramifications and consequences of this “relationship”?
2) It’s directed by Nacho Vigalondo, who was behind such films as Timecrimes, Extraterrestrial, and had a short in ABCs of Death. With him behind the creation of the film, you know it’s gonna be something special.
The film is being distributed by Neon, a new company launched by Tim League of Alamo Drafthouse. In his mind, people should go into the movie knowing as little about it as possible. He explains, “I actually think this movie is best if you go in pretty cold, knowing as little about the film as possible. So I won’t ask you to watch the trailer or tell you the plot. But I’ll tease you with the idea that this is the best Anne Hathaway performance ever.”
Horror fans often ask for original films, and while Colossal might not be a strictly clear cut horror film, it’s got a friggin’ giant monster in it! In my mind, a film like this doesn’t come around often, and we should support it as much as possible.
So, if you’re in the New York or Los Angeles areas and you want to help, you can get tickets to see it through Fandango.
Anne Hathaway, Jason Sudeikis, Dan Stevens, Tim Blake Nelson, Nathan Ellison, and Austin Stowell star in Colossal, which comes from director Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes, Open Windows).
