Nacho Vigalondo’s latest film Colossal (review) is almost out in theaters, which means the director is caught up in the midst of press tours as well as locking down his next adventure. Screenrant recently caught up with the director to talk about the creature feature film as well as his hopes and dreams, which include tackling an alien that is all-too-familiar to horror fans: the Xenomorph.

Vigalondo tells the site, “Would I love to make an Alien sequel? Of course. That would be amazing. But does the world want to see my Alien sequel? I’m not sure.

Personally, I’m 100% into the idea of Vigalondo getting his own Alien movie. In fact, I think there should be a similar structure to what Star Wars is doing now, which sees entries in the core franchise continue to be made but also allows for one-offs that fill in side stories. After all, for many people Rogue One is the best film in the Star Wars universe, or at least ranks very high. Why can’t we see something similar in the Alien universe? Wouldn’t it be awesome to have a sci-fi political thriller centered around the Weyland-Yutani corporation? Maybe we could find out more about their shady intentions when it comes to biological weaponry. There are a myriad of possibilities on how Scott’s 1979 original film could evolve into something even more intriguing and expansive.

Anne Hathaway, Jason Sudeikis, Dan Stevens, Tim Blake Nelson, Nathan Ellison, and Austin Stowell star in Colossal, which comes from director Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes, Open Windows).

Look for the film via Tom Quinn and Tim League’s distribution company Neon on April 7, 2017.
