Ah, yes. Generic titles. We love them. They’re no nonsense and to the point. American audiences couldn’t possibly deal with having to pay attention to more complicated titles like Dibbuk Box. Perish the thought.

Following up on a story originally broken by BD, Lionsgate has changed the title of Ghost House Pictures’ long talked about Dibbuk Box from Possession to The Possession. You know, because who wants to be reminded of that shitty Sarah Michelle Gellar movie of the same name? Can’t say we blame them there.

The Ole Bornedal-directed horror film starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport, and Natasha Calis will arrive in theaters January 6, 2012.

Synopsis
A recently divorced father’s (Morgan) youngest daughter becomes strangely connected to an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. As his daughter’s behavior becomes more erratic, the father senses a dark presence building until he discovers that the box was built to contain a dibbuk — a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.
