Break out the ear plugs for this week’s B-Sides because we’re heading into the sort of golden throat territory typically reserved for the musical stylings of William Shatner. If you’ve ever seen War of the Gargantuas, you know of the musical horror I’ve dug out.

Kipp Hamilton did a lot of movies and television throughout the Fifties and Sixties but never quite hit it big. Her final credit was the 1968 Toho giant monster movie War of the Gargantuas. In it she appeared briefly as a cruise ship lounge singer who performs a song so dreadful it could have killed anyone’s career. “The Words Get Stuck in My Throat” is so wretched that when the savage green Gargantua appears at the end of the scene to kill her, it’s practically a mercy killing. If only she had gotten stuck in its throat.

Stunningly, Devo performed a cover version of the song in the late Seventies. Not much even they could do to make this song any less of an ear bleeder.

From the swanky Sixties daikaiju romp War of the Gargantuas, here is the late Kipp Hamilton ending her big screen career on a sour note performing “The Words Get Stuck in My Throat”.
