Horror Comedy Clinger Reaches its Goal! New Cast Members Sign On!

Producer Bubba Fish dropped us a line to let us know that his latest project, the horror comedy Clinger, has achieved its crowd-funding goal and is officially on its way! Read on for more!
“We are excited to announce exclusively to Dread Central that Vincent Martella (Role Models, ‘Everybody Hates Chris,’ ‘Phineas and Ferb’) has been cast in the lead role of Robert Klingher in the horror-comedy Clinger,” says Fish.
Adds co-writer/director Michael Steves, “Vincent has exhibited a fluency in both quirky comedies with shows like ‘Phineas and Ferb’ and ‘Everybody Hates Chris’ as well as grittier dramas with his compelling episode of ‘The Mentalist.’ That versatility made him a perfect fit for the character of Robert, a character who is equal parts hilarious and terrifying.”
Martella tells us, “I’m really excited to get to be a part of Clinger. Playing Robert will definitely be a lot of fun while I get to work with a lot of great filmmakers. Being involved in this genre is something I’m really looking forward to.”
Vincent Martella will play opposite Jennifer Laporte, a native Houstonian and new talent. Lisa Wilcox (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 & 5) and Debbie Rochon have also signed on to the film, which began production in Houston on July 20th.
Clinger follows Fern Petersen, a high school senior trying to move on with her life after her overly affectionate boyfriend Robert Klingher is decapitated in an embarrassing accident. When Robert returns from the dead as a romantically frustrated ghost, he plots to kill Fern so they can be together forever.
Clinger is a heartfelt, raunchy break-up comedy with an over-the-top horror twist. The film’s style is in the vein of 80’s horror-comedy splatterfests like the original Fright Night and Evil Dead II. Mel House (Psychic Experiment, Imago) has signed on as associate producer on the film. Gabi Chennisi serves as both co-writer and director of photography; Bubba Fish is producing. The film is already backed by over 140 donors on Kickstarter and has well exceeded its fundraising goal.
In the film Robert curses a collection of Valentine’s teddy bears to attack–one of which rips a character’s heart out with its vicious fangs. Dig on a photo of one of these animatronic bears by Phil Nichols (Bigfoot Wars, Black Lagoon), who will be doing practical FX work on the film.
