New Van Helsing Movie Taking Different Approach

New Van Helsing Movie Taking Different ApproachThere's no doubt about it: The last time Universal took a crack at making a Van Helsing flick, they completely dropped the ball. While the monsters were kind of cool, everything else... well... sucked. Good thing they're headed back to the drawing board.

Producers Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman recently spoke to Crave, where they dropped this on fans:

"Well, I don’t want to give away too much because we are actually at the very beginning of talking about what to do with it. But I do feel like the Van Helsing that Anthony Hopkins plays in [Bram Stoker’s] Dracula is sort of the parody version of it, and the Van Helsing that Hugh Jackman played was obviously in a different place as well. I think that these kinds of movies have evolved a lot since then. You know, The Dark Knight was a major, major corner-turning moment in the way that genre and superhero stories could be told. Really grounded in reality. Really grounded in really cool things. That’s what I’d like to do without sacrificing the fantasy element. We aspired to do that as well on Trek, you know, keep it 'real.' That’s such a different franchise than Batman, but that’s really what we wanted to do. And we’d love to do that with Van Helsing."

Hopkins' Van Helsing was a parody? I must not have gotten that memo. Look for more soon.

Star Trek and The Dark Knight were 'realistic'? I do not think that word means what they think it means.

The monsters were cool? You mean the soap opera Dracula, the whiny purple Frankenstein, the limp Wolfman, and the incredible hulk Mr. Hyde? You lie.

I definitely do not think the Anthony Hopkins version was a parody. Clearly he has never read the original Dracula novel. In the Dracula novel he made sexual jokes during the blood transfusion, shocking the other characters. Hopkins version was as close to the novel as you could get. I think before they reboot this film SOMEONE needs to require that all people involved actually read Bram Stoker's novel as that's where the character originated because this guy clearly does not really get it. But at least it sounds like it won't be Gabriel Van Helsing.

The monsters were not cool, nothing about it was 'cool'. Now we're getting a version by the scipters of the last Star Trek, the dumbest iteration of a movie Trek ever. There is no hope here.
