Joel Kinnaman Talks New RoboCop
Surprisingly enough, MGM's RoboCop reboot is shaping up quite nicely. At least casting-wise, that is. Speaking of which, the man in the suit with all that wonderful weaponry recently spoke about what we can expect from Jose Padilha's film.
Regarding the plot of the film and how it relates to the original, Joel Kinnaman spoke to Collider and revealed the following. “It can be completely opposite. That’s how you can break new ground by rethinking something that’s already been done. José has a completely different take on this than Verhoeven had, and with all respect, everybody that’s involved in this movie loved the original and we have a lot of respect for it. We’re going to have a lot of throwbacks and there’s going to be a lot of fun stuff for the fans of the first movie. It’s a new story within the old one.”
Kinnaman (pictured; "The Killing") is the title character, a cop named Alex Murphy who is brought back from the brink of death and turned into a cyborg police officer. Gary Oldman will play Norton, the scientist who creates Robocop and finds himself torn between the ideals of the machine trying to rediscover its humanity and the callous needs of a corporation.
Currently the film has a tentative release date of August 9th, 2013.
