New RoboCop to Be More Human than You, Man
More news on the redux of RoboCop has come in, this time discussing the route being taken to bring the titular character to life ... or artificial life ... or whatever it is that they do with half-human cyborgs.
Sony Pictures will be distributing MGM's RoboCop, a remake of the 1987 Paul Verhoeven-directed science fiction film that will star Joel Kinnaman (pictured right) in the role originated by Peter Weller. The film’s being directed by Jose Padilha, helmer of the two Elite Squad films. Strike Entertainment partners Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are producing. Josh Zetumer wrote the script.
Kinnaman told MTV, "'RoboCop' is going to be a lot more human. The first movie is one of my favorite movies. I love it. Of course, Verhoeven has that very special tone, and it’s not going to have that tone. It’s a re-imagination of it. There’s a lot of stuff from the original. There are some details and throwbacks, but this version is a much better acting piece ... it's not going to be jaw action. They’re still working on the suit and how it’s going to look, but the visor is going to be see-through. You’re going to see his eyes."
And... for those who like that sort of thing, "It’s going to have a political satire to it, too," he added.
Look for the flick in theatres on August 9th, 2013.
