A Sequel to The Raid Already Announced - Berendal





Even though the original film hasn't opened here Stateside yet, a sequel to the eye-popping bloodbath known as The Raid is already well in the works. Read on for the latest.

According to THR director Gareth Evans is officially making a sequel to his film The Raid. Following successful runs at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival and the 2012 Sundance Festival, XYZ Films and Evans’ PT Merantu company brokered a deal to create a follow-up that will reunite the filmmaker with his Raid leading man Iko Uwais.

Sony Pictures Worldwide has already pre-bought the distribution rights for U.S., Latin America and Spain distribution rights, putting the sequel on a development fast track.

Although Sony didn’t divulge plot details for the sequel, it follows the events of the first film, in which an Indonesian SWAT team gets trapped in a Jakarta slum and its members are forced to fight their way out. Tentatively titled Berandal, the sequel will have a “significantly larger” budget than its predecessor, and its shooting schedule is to include approximately 100 days of physical production.

Directed by Gareth Evans, The Raid (aka The Raid: Redemption) stars Iko Uwais, Doni Alamsyah, Yayan Ruhain, Ray Sahetapy, and Joe Taslim. Look for it in theatres on March 23rd from Sony Pictures Classics.

Synopsis
Rama, a member of a special forces team, arrives at a rundown apartment block with a mission to remove its owner, a notorious drug lord. The building has become a sanctuary to killers, gangs, rapists and thieves seeking accommodation in the one place they know they cannot be touched by the police. When a spotter blows their cover, Rama and his team must fight their way through every floor and every room not just to complete their mission but to survive their bloody ordeal.
