Sony Pictures Classics Heads West of Memphis
Out of all the West Memphis Three projects coming out, it's the Peter Jackson produced West of Memphis that's really caught our attention. Thankfully, the flick has found some distro!
According to Deadline, the high profile documentary directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg and produced by Fran Walsh and Peter Jackson along with first-time producers Damien Echols (a subject of the film) and Lorri Davis, has had its worldwide rights scooped up by Sony Pictures Classics.
West Of Memphis centers on the new investigation surrounding the “West Memphis Three,” which ultimately broke the case open and led to the freedom of three innocent men: Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley, Jr.
The film examines the fatally flawed police investigation into the 1993 murders of three, eight-year-old boys in the small town of West Memphis, Arkansas, and goes on to reveal personal insight into Echols’ fight to save his own life. SPC negotiated the deal with Jackson and Walsh’s manager, Ken Kamins, who also serves as the film’s executive producer.
