Woodhaven Pictures Announces New Project Almost Mercy; Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder to StarWoodhaven Production Company and Chad A. Verdi Productions have worked with some of the biggest names in horror, and now they are bringing in two more genre legends to star in their upcoming film Almost Mercy, written and directed by Tom DeNucci.

Both Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder will be featured prominently in the film.

Previously Woodhaven has featured such stars as Robert Englund in Inkubus, William Forsythe and Michael Madsen in Infected, Michael Berryman and Eric Roberts in Self Storage, and Tony Todd and Godsmack’s Sully Erna in Army of the Damned just to name a few. Now Tom DeNucci has a whole new tale to tell, and Moseley and Hodder will be headlining the cast.

Fans of Tom DeNucci’s previous movies certainly know that the filmmaker normally has a vein of comedy running through his horror films. However, with Almost Mercy, although there is certainly black comedy to it, DeNucci gets darker than he ever has before. By far.

“I’ve decided to go for a much darker tone this time around,” DeNucci said. “B. Dolan and I partnered up and decided early on that we were really just gonna go right for the jugular on this script. It’s always nice to try and reach outside of your comfort zone and push the level as an artist, and that’s the case in this one. This is by far the heaviest story I’ve ever tried to tell. I look forward to the challenge.”

Almost Mercy will be filmed between mid-April and mid-May in multiple locations in Rhode Island. Chad A. Verdi, who is the CEO of Woodhaven and has produced all of the Woodhaven films, has secured distribution rights through Screen Media Films, and Universal Studio will release the film worldwide on VOD. Verdi and his wife, Michelle Verdi, are also currently producing two films with Martin Scorsese and Emma Tillinger Koskoff.

We’ll definitely keep you posted on this one, but for up-to-the-minute information, take to Twitter and follow director Tom DeNucci (@TomDeNucci) and producer Chad Verdi (@chadv12) on Twitter.

From the Press Release
Almost Mercy was written by B. Dolan and Tom DeNucci. Producer Chad Verdi tapped DeNucci to direct and produce. Sam Eilertsen will be the director of photography. The film tells the tale of a quaint little town with a dark secret. We focus on two outcasts, Jackson and Emily, victims of the town’s seedy underbelly. Ticking time bombs, they are seeking revenge. It’s a race to see who will unravel first. Dealing with issues that are far too common in our society, the film focuses on a new breed of terror. A fear that is now closer to home than ever imagined.

The film stars Kane Hodder (Jason X, Monster, Hatchet), best known for his portrayal of Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th franchise, who will play Coach Elwood, a seedy, overly aggressive gym teacher, driven by self-help books and his obsession with inflicting mental pain on his students. The great Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects, Night of the Living Dead, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2) will play Pastor Johnson, an overzealous preacher, who’s got the whole town fooled.

Verdi stated, “Tom DeNucci has directed two great films for us, and we expect that he will repeat this again.” Verdi added, “DeNucci was elevated to producer on this feature film because of all his hard work and dedication to the project. I am very happy that the flowing producers and ex-producers will be joining Tommy and I in association with LDI unlimited, David Gere, David Lussier as producers and Sherry Lussier, Michael Cole, Taylor Van Zant, Seth Rosenblit with Michelle Verdi as executive producer and music supervisor.”
