The CW Taking a Chance on a New Beauty and the Beast
The CW has announced three more pilot orders, one of which should be of interest to genre fans - a reboot of the 1980s series "Beauty and the Beast" that has the original's creator involved as well.
Per Deadline, this new version will be loosely based on the 1980s CBS series starring Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman and play as a modern day romantic love story with a procedural twist. Jennifer Levin ("Without a Trace") and Sherri Cooper ("Brothers and Sisters") wrote the script and are executive producing along with the creator of the original series, Ron Koslow; Paul Junger Witt and C. Anthony Thomas of Witt/Thomas Productions, which co-produced the 1980s series; and Bill Haber.
In case you're curious, the other two pilots are "Arrow", based on DC Comics' Green Arrow, and an adaptation of Candace Bushnell’s novel The Carrie Diaries, a prequel to Sex and the City.
